Right, I’ve revised the book now so in many respects it’s finished. Just in time for the summer holidays. I’ll be updating this blog with extracts, other stuff and begin the journey into publication one way or another, if anyone will have it. The blog will have a life of its own no matter how well or crap the book does.

This blog has also been updated with a new design template which features tabs you can click on, which will open up older entries and/or link to a ‘permalink’ which will open in a different page. It’s good because it has pretty colours as well. You can also go back to the previous page for older entries.

So what did I do to the book? I added a few more scenes, more clarity and worked on character dialogue.
Am I happy about it? Well as happy as one can be after spending a long time dipping in and out of it.
Am I happy with the narrative? In a word, yes. I extended the idea I had in 1993 with more ideas, and themes without, I feel, over writing it. I made sure that the extra characters and situations moved the novel along, whilst having fun.
Am I cool with the overall style? I think I found the right balance between flippancy and darkness.
Could there ever be a sequel or a series? Not by me. I’m done.
Why did it take me so long? Because I did other things. Although I had folders, notes and early drafts I also knew the world of the story, the characters and some of the plots off by heart, and whenever I returned to it, I was able to keep it fresh.
What if no-one publishes it? There’s always a way. One step at a time.
Is it better than a lot of novels? I’m biased.
Did I make loads of changes from the original concept? Sort of.
Was I ruthless with it? Yes. Very. There’s loads of deleted scenes.
Has my hair improved? My hairstyle never had a chance but I have grown white hair in the parts that were getting patchy so maybe that’s good.
Has the decorating been finished? It’s in the it’s endgame, at least in the living room. A word of advice, don’t play with coving.
When are you actually going to Rotterdam? Probably next year if funds suffice.

Next up, a couple of people will be reading it for me, giving me some input. While they are at it I’ll be looking up some possible literary agents and publishers.
